One of the biggest downfalls for many home based businesses is not taking it seriously. Sure, you put effort into it, but by not taking it seriously I am saying, not taking it as serious as you would a traditional job. With a traditional job you know you have to get up out of the bed and take your booty to work or suffer consequences. Too many late shows or call ins will cost you your job. With home based businesses you do not have a set schedule other then the one you make for yourself. If you do not treat it with the same respect and seriousness as you would a traditional job one morning late start can easily lead to two, three and so on.
Along the same line is the frequent breaks, extended lunches, spending time on the internet “playing” rather then working, taking extra long weekends are all bad habits as well as signs that you do not take your home based job serious. It is a no brainer when you are told that your income made in a home based business is only variant upon what you put into it. If you are not working it, you are not making money. You may have been able to get by with that lackey daisy attitude in your traditional job and still got your paycheck, but after a while a employer would catch on to your lack of sincerity to the company and give you the boot. With your own home based business, although there is no one there to kick your butt into gear little lone kick your butt to the curb, your paycheck will show just what you have or have not accomplished. Eventually your “corrector” will be the bill collector.

How true that is. Since it is so different than working in an office and collecting your scheduled checks, you tend to forget that the bills still have to be paid on the same schedule. You have to be really careful or you will dig a hole you won't be able to get out of.
ReplyDeleteI know you ain't lying about that. I started off on the wrong foot but one phone call about a delinquent account turned me into a believer. I know that if your bill collectors are not happy, you won't be either.
ReplyDeleteI hear that! I actually had a buddy who wasn't so good with his business and I learned several 'what not to do's from him. Bad for him, a good lesson for me.
ReplyDeleteGetting myself started in the morning was the hardest part of having my own business. Nobody cares whether I work at it or not, except me of course. No work, no pay, hello bill collector. It has gotten much better recently.
ReplyDeleteI did get by with a lot when I had a traditional job, and I didn't feel real good about it either. Now that I have my own business, I only reap what I sow, but the satisfaction of a job well done is all mine.
ReplyDeleteOuch, have you been looking in my window? I am guilty, or have been guilty of just about everything you listed. I'm glad to say I have cleaned up my act and my business is thriving. It's an easy pit to fall into especially if you're not real good at scheduling your day.
