What is your Biggest Benefits of Having a Home Based Business?

How many of you have a home based business? What type of business do you operate from your home? How has you success been and what do you see as your biggest benefits of running a home based business?

For me, the benefits of running my home based business have far out weighed any of the potholes I have stumbled upon along the way. As a father of three young children and a husband to a wonderful wife, family responsibilities can cause a distraction. That obstacle I have overcome by making sure I am always well organized and schedule my time accordingly. Our three young children do go to day care for half a day. My wife takes them in the morning and when I break for lunch, I pick them up. I make a point to schedule any phone business during the time my kids are at daycare and do my networking in the afternoon.

I remember when I first started working my home based business. It was full of long, long hours, chaos, and a wife that was dang near ready to strangle me at times I believe. However, I was dedicated it making it work and I did. I have to give a huge part of that credit to my family for making sacrifices of their time as well. The first year vacation time was limited, but now we are able to take extended and more frequent vacations and weekend excursions.

What did it take to make my home based business successful? It took prioritizing my time, setting daily goals, setting work boundaries with my wife and children, a whole lot of hours, missed favorite TV programs, movies, family outings, and recreational outings, and learning how to be an excellent multi-tasker! Now that my home based business has a solid foundation though I am able to schedule fun outings with my family and friends, watch my reality TV, and get 8 hours of sleep a night and even get a nap in!

So, share with me what has been your biggest obstacle in your home based business and how you overcame it or what you think your biggest obstacle could be if you start a home based business. What has been your biggest benefit of owning your own home based business?

  1. I have to say my biggest benefit of working from my home is the pay! All profits are mine and that is sweet!

  2. I hear you anon ~ It is sweet knowing that the effort I put into my home based business reflects directly with my pay!

  3. Thank goodness my children are old enough to fend for themselves while I'm working. I'd hate to think of having to pay a sitter while I'm sitting at home all day.

  4. Biggest benefit as far as I'm concerned is I'm my own boss. No more suits and ties, no more meetings, no more coworkers, no more drive to the office in morning traffic. Gosh, just look at all of those benefits, and I haven't even started talking about the pay yet.

  5. Hands down, it was the morning traffic jams I had to endure to get to work. Either I had to leave at 6 to miss the rush which put me at work early, or leave at 7 and hope I could make it by 830. Now, I sleep till 830 and still have the whole day to work. It's the best!

  6. Wow JoEllen, I'm glad I live in a smaller town. I came from St. Louis so I can sympathize with that morning drive. I'm glad I don't have to do that anymore either. I think the biggest benny for me is not having to watch other people goof off while I'm working my butt off to get my work (and some of theirs) done before the end of the day.

  7. Wearing the monkey suit every day, hands down. I don't sit around in my PJ's (at least not very often)but casual dress is conducive to work.

  8. While I did have a good boss, I have to admit that no boss at all is better. It's really the way to go.

  9. This might sound a little off the wall but I enjoy the quiet. I worked in an office but we were right across the street from a factory and the noise level was deafening.

  10. I live in Minnesota, and you know what kind of winters we have here. That's what pushed me into a home based business. In the winter I seldom go out any more. I even have my groceries delivered. It's great and I'd do it all over again, and again....

  11. I'd have to say not having to get dressed up every day. Now, when I do take the time to get dressed up I feel really special. I usually work most of the morning in my PJ's and don't get dressed until I break for lunch! It's awesome.

  12. My biggest benefit is the fun and the ability to make extra money on an ongoing basis as well as the ability to make more money when I need it.
